Hello all,
My name is Ehsan Kayal and I am a new Ph.D. student in Dennis
Lavrov's Lab at the Iowa State University (USA). I'm interested in
the evolution of non-bilaterian animals (in particular cnidarians and
sponges) and I'm currently working primarily with mtDNA. We have
recently published our analysis of Hydra oligactis mtNDA http://
www.eeob.iastate.edu/faculty/LavrovD/publications/PDF_files/
2008_Gene.pdf. Among other things this analysis revealed a profound
scarcity of mitochondrial data from most Cnidarian lineages, in
particular the Hydrozoa and the Scyphozoa, but also the Alcyonaria.
Thereby, I would like to fill up this gap in our knowledge by
sequencing a few additional mt genomes from each of these groups, and
I would like to hear about other related project that people conduct
or contemplate so we do not duplicate others' efforts. I would also
appreciate any suggestions on the choice of species for such a
project that would benefit most the Cnidarian scientific community
and that also would be easily accessible.
Thank you very much in advance.
Sincerely,
Ehsan
